Honey for Skin

Posted in Beauty, Girl Talk | 0 comments

I rarely ever swear but this time I would wanna swear. At least to the benefits of honey on my skin. I’ve been having a really rough time, I have breakouts all over my face, I guess hormones aren’t really very fond of me right now. Instead of panicking and stressing too much about it, I decided to just let it be and get some home-cure. It was actually my husband who introduced me to using honey as skin care solution a few years ago. Whenever I have really bad pimples or lots of black heads, I use honey on my face. I guess this is my equivalent luxury top rehab centers for skin.

Honey

I know that there are a lot of skin care products with honey as ingredient so I would deduce a lot of people get benefits from these. I just usually lather my face with pure honey or sometimes mixed with milk after cleansing, then let it sit for a while. Then I rinse off. I dunno but I find my skin really supple and dewy soft afterwards. I’ve also taken to making my own oatmeal-milk-honey scrub and I use it once a week and its really effective in peeling of dead skin and leaving my skin glowing.

And oh, aside from its benefits to my skin, I discovered taking a spoon of it daily or mixed with warm water and lemon is really great in keeping cough and colds away.

Review: Kurstie Kiwi Fruit + Aloe Gel Mask

Posted in Beauty, Beauty Product Reviews | 0 comments

Yikes, I almost forgot I promised a review on the stuff I purchased last time {see my mini drug store haul}. Blame it on Twitter, house chores and my constant Illustrator doodling for some invitations project I was working on. Anyway, I’ve tried using the Kurstie Kiwi Fruit + Aloe Gel Mask for several times already.

Kurstie Kiwi + Aloe Gel Mask

And here’s what I have to say about it:

  • The Gel Mask: Clear looking, sticky like most gel masks. I’m not a big fan of its fragrance I find it too masculine and I feel like someone is dangling a bunch of grass on my nose when I put on the mask. The application is easy enough though.
  • Skin Reaction: Not much. Some masks leave my skin dewy and really supple. But this one, aside from the slight tightening effect, had nada effect on me. Then on my third use, my face felt really itchy I had to remove the whole thing from my face and rinse my face for the itch to come off.
  • Packaging: Ugh. Can’t this company get a better package designer?
  • Price: I guess that’s the only thing I like about this. Lol. I got this for just $3.90.
This one is definitely going to somebody else. I mean, perhaps my skin just doesn’t agree with it. I have a combo dry-oily skin. Dry on most parts and oily on the T-zone.

Get Away Dark Circles!

Posted in Beauty, Girl Talk, Health, Diet & Fitness | 2 comments

Yes! I know I blog without obligation but sometimes when I leave things a bit unattended for awhile, I feel a bit guilty.  I feel like I left my baby… hahaha yeah that’s true.  Anyway, I was running out of creative juices the past two weeks and was so busy attending to other projects online and offline.

dark eye circle remedies

I also had a much needed vacation coz like my husband said, I needed it. I literally have dark circles under my eyes. Lol! And its driving me insane I dunno how to remove it. Some suggests I should go for a regular facial mask treatment, some suggest I put some cucumber, some insists I sleep more. Gah! Is there some sort of treatment for this? I might dash for a quick easy personal loan if this treatment is expensive but what the heck!

Anyway, now I sleep early 10 pm being the latest but for some reason I still have dark circles. I don’t any pressing problems, I don’t stress too much so I dunno what to do. Maybe I should just lay and do some more relaxing. Any tips from you dear readers? I’m nearly desperate here and hubby keeps teasing me that this is a sure sign of aging. He might be telling the truth?! hahahaha!

Anyway, I was searching for good tips on getting rid of dark eye circles and this article on WikiHow deserves mention. It’s useful, concise and filled with tips. Hope it’ll work for me.

My Cold Weather Skin Essentials

Posted in Beauty | 0 comments

Vain, yes, I am vain. Not put-on-tons-of-makeup vain but my vanity veers towards a lot of effort in taking care of my skin. I’ve always believed clean and clear skin is one of women’s better assets and if you’ve got it you really don’t need much makeup. It’s like, you can dare to face the world with just your ‘naked’ skin.

So I constantly obsess about caring for my skin. Like during dry and hot weather, I’m usually in a panic mode about acne, especially with my oily skin. Yeah, I do get into panic attacks, enough for me to consider acne pills! But I often settle down and be patient about it anyway.

Same thing for the cold season, I take great pains not to let my skin go so dry. The cold and chilly wind and temperatures can really sap the moisture in skin, so the usual skin care regimen changes a bit. It’s still, cleanse, tone and moisturize routine for me but cleansing becomes gentler, and moisturizing becomes heavier.

Too much cleansing will strip too much moisture from the skin, so cleansing I limit to just once a day with a light face cleanser. I have three picks for this, all of them works for me though my top pick is Cetaphil and if its not available then its Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash.

For day time moisturizer I still stick to my all time fave Ducray’s Ictyane Hydrating Creme. I have oily and sensitive skin so this really works for me since its not too heavy and just perfect for day time use.

For night time use, I prefer a heavier moisturizer. Olay Total Effects 7-in-1 Anti-Aging UV Moisturizer or Nivea Cream Crème.

As for body lotion, these are my staples..

And another thing, drinking more and more fluids to keep hydrated. Plus a good lip balm comes in really handy.

Looking at all my skin care product preferences I just realized I go for unscented/mild scented, mostly for sensitive skin variety. All of these I have used since I was in my teens, well except for the Olay Total Effects Moisturizer which I started using just four years ago..

Detoxify Your Facial Skin with Facial Steaming

Posted in Beauty, Beauty Product Spotlight, Health, Diet & Fitness | 0 comments

Facial steaming offers a whole lot of benefits for your skin. It’s the best way to deep cleanse your pores, and therefore helping you get rid of pimples, blackheads, whiteheads and other facial skin impurities.

The steam opens up your pores and loosens clogged dirt, makeup residues, impurities and also dead skin cells. It’s a great way for your body to release toxins which cannot be otherwise be removed by other cleansing methods. For those with oily skin, steaming can be done every other day while those with dry skin should do this at least once a week.

Facial steaming can easily be done at home. You can use what you have at home or if you have it you can also use a facial sauna gadget.

face steaming

Here’s some tips:

  • Cleanse your face thoroughly first by washing with warm water and a mild soap
  • Boil a pot of water and add a few slices of lemon or some herbs. For oily skin you can try adding some lemon, peppermint or thyme. For sensitive skin use chamomile or lime. Those with normal skin can use rose, rosemary or lavender.
  • Place hot water in a bowl and drape a towel over your head, making a ‘tent’ around the bowl.  Stand in front of the steam and let the steam go directly to your face. Do keep your mouth and eyes closed to avoid irritation.
  • Steam your face for 15-20 minutes but not more than 20 minutes.  If you have ultra sensitive skin then 10-15 minutes would do.
  • Once you’re done, rinse your face with warm water and pat gently to dry with a towle
  • After steaming, it would be the best time to apply a facial mask, since your skin proes are open and could absorb more.

Personally, this has been very effective for me in removing whiteheads and blackheads. And I do love that feeling of softness and freshness after steaming my face.

Here’s some facial sauna items I found in Amazon.com…
