Tips to Softer, Smoother Skin
Getting soft and smoother skin can’t happen magically nor can you have it overnight. Unless you’re born with it, it would need some consistent care routines. These are some easy tips applicable to most skin types.
- When showering or bathing, its better to use lukewarm water than hot water. Hot water can dry out your skin.
- When exfoliating, do scrub gently.Abrasive scrubbing can cause skin breakage. Do this twice or thrice a week for a smoother skin.
- Use moisturizing or skin softening soap when you are not exfoliating. This would make your skin softer and more supple and not easily dry out.
- Pat your skin dry with a soft towel after showering or bathing. Don’t scrub with the towel, remember, just pat it dry.
- Moisturize with lotion. Pick one that is not heavy with perfume and just right for your skin.
- Don’t just moisturize after shower. Make sure you apply your lotion or moisturizing oil a few time per day.
- If your hands and feet are extra dry, try soaking it in lukewarm water for at least 15 minutes then applying lotion, oil or petroleum jelly before sleeping. Put on a pair of socks to protect them specially if you’re staying in a cold room.
- Choose the skin care products you apply. Products with too many ingredient may bring in more ‘bad’ results than good. When choosing creams like acne cream, anti-aging cream better choose what would be best for your skin type and if you’re not sure check with your dermatologist.
- Drink plenty of fluids throughout the day. This would keep your skin hydrated, soft and fresh looking.
Easy Oatmeal Mask Recipe
I love DIY natural beauty products. That way, you save and you do away with harsh chemicals that are often present in store bought beauty products. I used to make my own lip balm, I usually mix my bath scrub salts and sometimes I make my own mask. My favorites would be avocado and also honey masks and this one looks interesting – Natural Oatmeal Mask.
Here’s a recipe I found in E-how, and its simple and easy enough to follow.
You’ll need:
1/2 cup hot water
2 tbsp plain yogurt
2 tbsp honey
1 egg white
1/3 cup oatmeal (quick/instant)
How To:
1. Add water to oatmeal and wait till it thickens.
2. Mix the rest of the ingredients together with the oatmeal mixture.
3. Apply the oatmeal mask to your face in a thin, even layer. leave it on for 10 to 15 minutes
4. Mask can be refrigerated up to a week.
Detoxify Your Facial Skin with Facial Steaming
Facial steaming offers a whole lot of benefits for your skin. It’s the best way to deep cleanse your pores, and therefore helping you get rid of pimples, blackheads, whiteheads and other facial skin impurities.
The steam opens up your pores and loosens clogged dirt, makeup residues, impurities and also dead skin cells. It’s a great way for your body to release toxins which cannot be otherwise be removed by other cleansing methods. For those with oily skin, steaming can be done every other day while those with dry skin should do this at least once a week.
Facial steaming can easily be done at home. You can use what you have at home or if you have it you can also use a facial sauna gadget.
Here’s some tips:
- Cleanse your face thoroughly first by washing with warm water and a mild soap
- Boil a pot of water and add a few slices of lemon or some herbs. For oily skin you can try adding some lemon, peppermint or thyme. For sensitive skin use chamomile or lime. Those with normal skin can use rose, rosemary or lavender.
- Place hot water in a bowl and drape a towel over your head, making a ‘tent’ around the bowl. Stand in front of the steam and let the steam go directly to your face. Do keep your mouth and eyes closed to avoid irritation.
- Steam your face for 15-20 minutes but not more than 20 minutes. If you have ultra sensitive skin then 10-15 minutes would do.
- Once you’re done, rinse your face with warm water and pat gently to dry with a towle
- After steaming, it would be the best time to apply a facial mask, since your skin proes are open and could absorb more.
Personally, this has been very effective for me in removing whiteheads and blackheads. And I do love that feeling of softness and freshness after steaming my face.

Your Own Homemade Deodorizing Spray
Are you fussy about smells in your home? I am and a lot of women friends I have are also particular about smells, most particularly cigarette smells, pet odors, and cooking smells.
